Skin Tag Removal
Skin tags are small brown or flesh-coloured growths that hang from the surface of the skin. They are made from a core of fibres, ducts and nerve cells and are covered by the epidermis, the outer layer of the skin. Although skin tags are common they are completely harmless and are usually only a few millimetres in size. They do not usually cause any pain or discomfort, however depending on where they are on the body; they can snag on clothing or jewellery and bleed as a result.
Skin tags can affect anyone and most commonly occur where the skin folds or creases. They are more likely to affect people who are overweight for this reason. Skin tags can be hereditary, and people who are diabetic or pregnant are also more prone to them.
2 methods of removal are available;
Advanced electrolysis - Involves using short wave diathermy to cauterise the blood supply to the skin tag resulting in them falling off. A very quick, effective treatment. Permanent results are achieved. Causes the tag to shrivel up, go black and fall off within 2-4 weeks.
Cryopen - Freezing the skin tag off again causing the tag to shrivel up and fall off with 2-4 weeks.
There isn't much difference between these treatments for the removal of skin tags.
