Myofascial Release Therapy

Myofascial release is a specialised soft tissue therapy for the treatment and rehabilitation of tension and restrictions in the body causing immobility and pain. This therapy aims to relax contracted muscles, improve blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulate the stretch reflex in muscles.

Fascia is the 3 dimensional web of connective tissue that runs in a continuous fashion throughout the entire body. Essentially, the network of fascia is the "glue" that holds the body together. It's function is to provide support, stability, and cushioning.

Fascial restrictions can be caused by repetitive activities, injury, poor posture, and even emotional trauma or distress.

Sports & Remedial Massage

What is remedial massage?

One of the deepest forms of massage, Remedial Massage is ideal for the relief and prevention of musculo-skeletal injuries or conditions, whether through sport, occupation, postural problems, or a specific trauma. It is one of the deepest and most effective forms of injury prevention and treatment.

Remedial massage is deep manipulation of the soft and connective tissues of the body leading to relief from acute or chronic muscular pain, an increase in joint mobility, improved circulation, and last but not least a profound level of relaxation, both physical and mental.

This treatment is ideal for those whose lifestyles are demanding and tiring, by providing an opportunity to be unwound, have aches and pains eased out and achieve a deep sense of overall calm and balance.

Through massage, levels of stress can be reduced, circulation improved, and physical and psychological balance can be achieved.

What is it for?

Although many clients who consult a remedial massage therapist have pain as a result of specific injuries (whiplash, falls, sports injuries, etc.), RSI (repetitive strain injuries) and other work-related problems, the vast majority originates in postural (structural) alignment problems that sometimes go back to childhood and adolescence. Simply put, if you are suffering from any muscular-skeletal pain or condition, then Remedial Massage can provide you with the relief you need as well as a long term reduction and possible elimination of the causes.

The treatment

Treatment employs massage techniques designed to treat both deep and superficial tissues, not dissimilar to those used in sports massage.

The remedial massage therapist uses skilled manual manipulation combined with in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology to bring about pain relief, correcting and normalising the body’s muscles and soft tissues.

To facilitate and encourage change, various bodywork techniques such as Isometric

The benefits

As with most other massage techniques, Remedial massage will assist in improving circulatory problems, lymphatic drainage, stress related conditions, muscular aches and injuries, as well as encouraging the natural healing properties of body and mind.

The art of reflexology dates back to ancient Egypt, India and China. However, it wasn't until 1913 that Dr William Fitzgerald introduced this to the west. In the 1930's Eunice Ingham developed this therapy into what is now known as reflexology.

Reflexology is a complimentary therapy, which works on the feet to help heal the whole person not just the prevailing systems.

Reflexology can be used to help restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium. This gentle therapy encourages the body to work naturally to restore its own healthy balance.

Reflexology has been shown to be effective for:

Hopi Ear Candling

What are Hopi Candles?

Hopi Ear Candles are hollow tubes made of cotton, soaked in beeswax, honey and herbs. When lit, the candle acts like a chimney, causing the warm air inside it to rise and creating a vacuum at the bottom. This vacuum gently stimulates the ear, facilitating removal of excess wax and impurities.

It is important to note that the candle does not suck wax out of the ear; it stimulates the ear to eliminate the wax naturally, ensuring maximum safety.

What are the benefits?

Hopi candles can be used for many conditions including deafness caused by excess wax, congested sinuses, irritation in the ears, ringing or noises in the ears, tinnitus, rhinitis, glue ear, colds, flu, headaches and migraines. As their action is so gentle, they are particularly suitable for children.

What are the effects?

In most cases the treatment is extremely soothing and relaxing, leaving the patient with a sense of well-being and reduced pressure in the ears or head. A little warmth is felt, and hissing and crackling noises are heard, with a little popping. Most people say that it is a very pleasant experience!

The initial effect can be an improvement in hearing or freer nasal breathing and an improved sense of smell. However, improvements can continue occurring for a day or two.

When should the candles not be used?

Use of the candles is contra-indicated if:

•The ear drum is perforated

•Grommets are in place

•The ear is infected

•The patient is allergic to any of the candle’s components

Safety -
We use BIOSUN Ear Candles, which are medical products Class IIa according to medical device directive 93/42/EEC, and are regularly tested by independent institutes. You can therefore be confident that the candles are made to the highest quality and safety standards.
